Rosie

What is the story behind the cultural icon Rosie the RiveterRosie looks at the resiliency, humor, and heart of the women who worked in the factories during World War II. Virginia is the only female team manager in the entire airplane factory. But her great opportunity to lead comes with some equally difficult challenges. She is told by her boss (Mr. Harold) that a national magazine is coming to write an article and take pictures of the women contributing to the war effort. As exciting as this sounds, Mr. Harold has hired some plants (models) who will be added to Virginia’s team to look and sound exactly as “the men upstairs” want them to. Virginia and her team find interesting ways to pass the time and still keep their production numbers up. Mary, the top riveter in the factory, finds a radio that allows them to hear transmissions from Frankie Slater, a pilot in the Pacific. These radio transmissions change the ways the women interact with each other and how they feel about the war effort.

Rosie looks at the harassment, humor, and heartache that comes with "working in a man's world." Through it all the women are tested and continue to rise to the challenges they face.
